New Jersey and of the Civil War
Lectures, Concerts, Films
Presented by:
The Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee
of the Cranford Historical Society
The 150th anniversary of the American Civil War begins in 2011 and runs until 2015. On October
27, 2009, the Township of Cranford adopted a resolution designating the Cranford Historical
Society as the lead organization for celebrating that defining period of American history.  The Society
will be sponsoring educational and entertaining programs throughout the anniversary to broaden public
awareness of the transformative events leading to the conclusion of that great struggle.

Steven D. Glazer PowerPoint Presentation on "Cranford Civil War Veterans"

Sunday, May 20, 2012 @ 2:00-4:00 pm at Crane-Phillips Huse Museum

Seventy Cranford residents participated in the momentous events of the Civil War. Most served with
the Union forces, while a few supported the cause of the Confederacy. All contributed in some way to
Cranford’s development. Steven D. Glazer has been researching these connections between Cranford
and the Civil War for almost a decade. He will provide a PowerPoint presentation portraying many
of these local veterans, the homes in which they lived and the mark they left on our town.

Mr. Glazer is a member of the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee and chairs the
Civil War anniversary committee of the Cranford Historical Society, a sponsor of this event. He
recently published a book regarding his research; Discover Your Community's Civil War Heritage.
He also contributed to two other works regarding New Jersey and the Civil War: New Jersey Goes
to War and New Jersey’s Civil War Odyssey. The three books will be available for sale.
This event is sponsored by the Cranford Public Library and the Cranford Historical Society.
